It’s often said that injury is part of sports. To this end, Brooklyn Nets Caris LeVert left the court via stretcher against the Minnesota Timberwolves Monday night. It appeared that LeVert sustained a serious lower leg injury.

With less than five seconds remaining in the first half, LeVert collided with Jeff Teague after attempting to block his (Teague’s) shot. LeVert sat up and initially looked at his leg then placed his hands on his head in a combination of pain and disbelief.

The Target Center hushed in instant silence as medics quickly arrived on scene to attend to LeVert. Nets players, visibly shaken, huddled together as LeVert was being attended to. He was transported to the locker room, then to a nearby hospital.

In the midst of a solid game, LeVert tallied 10 points, 5 assists and 4 rebounds before the incident. This season LeVert emerged as the Nets best player and closer. Prior to Monday’s game, he averaged 19 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game this season. A budding star in LeVert scored game winners versus the New York Knicks and recently against the Denver Nuggets in Denver just last week.

Nets Issue An Update

While information on the severity of LeVert’s injury is not yet known, the Nets released a short statement.

LeVert is currently in his third season after playing collegiately at the University of Michigan. The University took to social media and showed its support for him during this troubling time.

Some of the league’s biggest names such as Dwyane Wade and Chris Paul also showed their support for LeVert.

LeVert has suffered serious injuries previously during his collegiate years. Updates will follow as more information becomes available. The Nets ultimately lost to the Wolves by a score of 113-120 and dropped to 6-8 on the season.
